Andrea Wurst from Sielmingen: face of the Medium is mega” campaign!

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs’ advertising campaign “medium is mega” has already had its first successes. Andrea Wurst, a 56-year-old measurement technician and works council chairwoman of Gehring Technologies in Ostfildern, is one of 14 personalities presented as part of the campaign. Your story will not only be shown on large posters in Stuttgart, but also digitally via social media and the website www.megastand.de spread. A large picture of her is also emblazoned in downtown Stuttgart and attracts attention there.

Wurst, who is known for her media-shy nature, was recently recognized by a stranger on the street, illustrating the campaign's reach. Another photo of her hangs directly on the coffee machine at her company in Ostfildern. This visibility reflects the commitment of the state government, which wants to use the campaign to increase awareness of the merits of medium-sized businesses among citizens and decision-makers. Economics Minister Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut highlights the central role of medium-sized businesses as employers, trainers and drivers of innovation. “99% of the companies in Baden-Württemberg are medium-sized and provide 64% of all jobs,” said the minister.

Goals and financing of the campaign

The initiative is supported by the state government, which invests over 200 million euros annually in the innovation and competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies. The “medium is mega” campaign aims to inspire and encourage the population to share their own stories about medium-sized businesses. Other personalities who are part of the campaign include Manuel Beha, a baker, and Dr. Daniela Eberspächer-Roth, managing director in the metal industry.

The campaign started in April and includes posters, projector projections and social media ads. This was done in collaboration with Dr. Jan Stefan Roell from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Rainer Reichhold from Handwerk BW and Björn Demuth from the freelance professions. Strengthening small and medium-sized businesses is a central topic on the agenda of this year's Conference of Economic Ministers.

The “medium is mega” campaign is based on the coalition agreement between Alliance 90/The Greens and the CDU and the “Master Plan for SMEs Baden-Württemberg”. Its aim is to ensure the future viability of medium-sized businesses in the country's economy. Economics Minister Hoffmeister-Kraut expects this offensive to slowly bear fruit and increase awareness of the relevance of medium-sized businesses in society. The campaign is also complemented by numerous other personalities, including Sally Özcan, a well-known food blogger, and Oliver Wirth, a managing director, who work together to highlight the successes of medium-sized businesses.
