VfL Waiblingen: Michael Stettner new coach of the TIGER Girls!

The handball world in Waiblingen is moving: After successfully staying in the league in the 2nd women's handball league, VfL Waiblingen has solved the coaching question. From July 1, 2025, Michael Stettner will look after the TIGER Girls as the new head coach. The 41-year-old is moving from the men's regional league team TV Plochingen to Waiblingen, where he wants to take on the challenge of further developing the team and establishing it permanently in the league. Handball World reports that Stettner previously trained the youngsters of SG Schozach-Bottwartal in the women's division before he was active in various men's teams in recent years.

Stettner began his coaching career in 2008 with the female C youth team of SG Schozach-Bottwartal. He was quickly able to achieve success: With the A-juniors he qualified for the youth Bundesliga and led the women's team from the regional league to the 3rd league. These successes have made him a sought-after handball coach. Stettner is optimistic about the Waiblingen team and sees a lot of potential. In his new functions, he would like to use and further develop the team's strengths. Waiblingen Tigers reports that the TIGER Girls are currently facing relegation, but only need one win to secure their stay in the 2nd Bundesliga.

New coach, new players

With Michael Stettner at the helm, the team is not only led by a new coach, but is also strengthening its personnel. Two new players, Amelie Herzog and Cosima Würdiger, join the team. Herzog (23) comes from French second division club Palente Besancon HB and will play both on the right wing position and in the half-right backcourt. Würdiger, 19 years old and previously active for third division club TSV Schwabmünchen, is described as a promising defender who will give the team additional stability. In addition, the talented goalkeeper Laura Hoke was also hired. Handball World emphasizes that the signing of these players underlines the club's ambitions.

The women's sporting director at the TIGERS, Harald Beilschmied, also speaks positively about Stettner's commitment and emphasizes the importance of continuity in the coaching team. This could be crucial in the TIGER Girls' upcoming games, especially in the upcoming local derby against TG Nürtingen, which will be played under the eyes of many fans.

The upheavals in the team and the exciting challenges of the coming season give TIGER Girls fans hope for positive developments. Michael Stettner has a clear vision, and with the right support from the players and the club, he is confident that he will have a successful time in Waiblingen.
