Manchester heroes shine: 4-2 win against Vietnam All Stars!

As part of the Việt Nam-UK Football Festival, a spectacular friendly match between the Manchester Reds and the Vietnam All Stars took place at the Hoa Xuan Stadium in Da Nang on June 27, 2025. Over 15,000 spectators witnessed this memorable event, which celebrated 52 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom. Ryan Giggs, one of the most famous Manchester United legends, led his team onto the field as captain.

Other prominent players included Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke, Michael Owen, Teddy Sheringham and Wes Brown. For many, it was the first time these greats of football had taken to the pitch in Vietnam, which made the atmosphere in the stadium even more electric. Michael Owen brought the first celebration in the 7th minute when he scored after receiving a precise pass from Gary David Lockyer. Serial attacker Dwight Yorke was active by sending numerous crosses from the right into the penalty area.

Gameplay and highlights

The Manchester Reds got off to a strong start and Owen made it 2-0 with a penalty in the 27th minute. During the game, Vietnamese strikers Văn Quyết, Công Vinh and Lê Huỳnh Đức also had opportunities, but were unable to overcome the Reds' defense. Wes Brown put in a solid defensive performance to secure a 2-goal lead at halftime.

After the break, Huynh Duc, a key player for the Vietnam All Stars, scored a goal in the second half to reduce the score to 1-2. But the Vietnamese fans' joy was short-lived: David Lokyer restored the old lead just two minutes later. Ultimately, Nguyễn Việt Thắng managed to score another goal for the Vietnam All Stars in the 80th minute, but that didn't change the final score of 4-2 for the Manchester Reds.

A celebration of football

As well as being a sporting highlight, the match was part of festivities that included golf and a junior football tournament attended by football legends. These events promoted exchanges between the two nations and demonstrated the passion that football inspires in Vietnam. Players and fans alike experienced an unforgettable day that was both sportingly and culturally significant. The presence of the Vietnamese fans gave the game a special atmosphere that captivated both the players and the spectators.
