Blooming Opportunities: New Cut Flower Tours in Indiana!
Purdue Extension has launched an exciting new initiative aimed at cut flower growers in Indiana. The Cut Flower Tours series offers both aspiring and established growers the opportunity to gain knowledge, network and advance in cut flower production. As Morning Ag Clips reports, the tours are conducted in collaboration with local growers and agricultural partners.
Each tour includes a comprehensive guided tour of a working cut flower farm. Topics such as soil cultivation, crop planning, succession cultivation and harvesting techniques are on the agenda. In addition, participants receive valuable tips on choosing the right varieties, pest control and marketing, be it to florists or at farmers markets.
Diverse content and networking opportunities
An essential part of the events is information on start-up costs, appropriate tools and the experiences of previous breeders. Participants also have the opportunity to ask questions, network and exchange ideas. Cost is $15 per person and registration is required due to limited space.
The events take place in various counties including Vigo, LaPorte, Marion, Owen, Whitley, Hancock, Porter, Clark and Scott Counties. Additionally, the first tour is specifically scheduled for future flower farmers and will take place on July 25, 2025 at Millstream Farm in Churubusco, Indiana. According to Purdue Extension, the registration deadline for this event is July 20, 2025.
