Nürtingen: Roßdorfschule receives 8.14 million euros for all-day care!

The Nürtingen local council has unanimously decided to expand the Roßdorf school. This is done as part of ensuring the right to all-day care at primary schools, which will be gradually introduced from August 2026. On September 10, 2021, the Federal Council approved the compromise proposal for the All-Day Support Act, which regulates the legal right to all-day care for primary school children. This is primarily intended to close a gap in care that arises for many families after daycare and is set out in the Eighth Social Code (SGB VIII).

The original cost forecast for the construction project was 6.5 million euros in 2023. However, a cost estimate of 8.14 million euros is currently assumed. These increases are due to price increases, better insulation, additional fire protection and other additional costs, as the NTZ reports.

Good prospects for all-day care

From 2026, a legal right to all-day care for primary school children will come into force, which will initially apply to the first grade and will be extended to all grades one to four by August 2029. This legal entitlement provides for eight hours of care on all five working days, including during holidays with a maximum of four weeks of closure, which can be regulated by the federal states. The federal government is investing up to 3.5 billion euros to expand all-day care.

A report by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) shows that the employment of mothers can increase by two to six percentage points through the expansion of all-day care. At the same time, the aim is to improve the compatibility of family and work and to promote equal opportunities in the educational sector. High-quality care also supports children's social, emotional and physical development, which is a key aspect of the coming changes.

Financial support and infrastructure

From 2026 onwards, the federal government will provide increasing funding for the expansion of all-day care, which will rise to 1.3 billion euros per year from 2030. The Initiative for all-day expansion is intended to relieve the financial burden on the states as they contribute 30 percent of the costs. A total of 3.5 billion euros is expected to flow into infrastructure and equipment by 2027.

The funds can be used for expansions, conversions or new buildings. The aim is to achieve a qualitative improvement in the quality of care offerings, even in regions with a high level of development. The current expansion of the Roßdorf School is therefore an important step towards comprehensive, high-quality all-day care and will make a significant contribution to the educational landscape in Nürtingen in the future.
