New mobility apps in Stuttgart: comfortable and environmentally friendly travel!

On June 28, 2025, the Stuttgart Transport Association (VVS) and the state of Baden-Württemberg will present their latest developments in the field of mobility. The newly designed apps for buses and trains are intended to meet the needs of passengers and offer a sustainable solution in local public transport. These apps are specifically designed for the use of public transport and are intended to significantly improve mobility in the region. ntz.de reports that the development of the applications is aimed at promoting climate-friendly mobility.

The new bwegt app is a central part of this initiative. It provides real-time information on the punctuality of bus and train connections and allows users to set connection favorites. Furthermore, current messages about timetable changes and service information are visible directly on the app’s homepage. An interactive map also shows the next stops and the exact location of buses and trains in real time, making trip planning much easier.

User-friendly functionalities

The bwegt app integrates the innovative digital system Check-in-Check-out Baden-Württemberg (CiCoBW), which enables users to conveniently organize their trips without requiring extensive tariff knowledge. If there are multiple trips, the cheapest price for the user is automatically determined at the end of the day. This is seen as an essential step to simplify the use of public transport, as Transport Minister Winfried Hermann emphasizes. Beteiligungsportal.baden-wuerttemberg.de emphasizes that the needs of passengers were always the focus of development.

It was also emphasized that passengers were actively involved in the development process. Surveys were conducted and prototypes were tested to ensure that the apps met users' actual needs. VVS Managing Director Cornelia Christian explains that this participation was crucial to optimizing the user experience.

A step into the future of mobility

The new apps not only provide an improved user experience, but they are also designed as a modular system. This enables other transport associations in Baden-Württemberg to adapt the apps and develop their own applications. This creates a uniform standard that is intended to promote mobility throughout the country. Transport Minister Hermann describes that these digital solutions will help make it easier to switch to buses and trains and thus contribute to the transport transition.

Overall, this initiative represents significant progress in the digital transformation of local public transport in Stuttgart and Baden-Württemberg, with the aim of making sustainable mobility accessible to all citizens.
