Sinking at Lake Aileswasen: Major search operation for missing swimmer!
On Whit Sunday there was a tragic incident at Lake Aileswasensee in Neckartailfingen, Baden-Württemberg. A swimmer went under in the southeastern part of the lake and a search has been underway ever since. The incident happened at 2:30 p.m. on a sunny day when temperatures were expected to reach up to 31 degrees. DLRG lifeguards were on duty and were watching the swimmer when he suddenly went under, the news reports Bild.de.
The search for the missing swimmer has been underway since Sunday. Various rescue workers, including divers and police, were mobilized to continue the search. Despite extensive measures, including the use of a sonar device, there are currently no signs of the swimmer's whereabouts. To be on the safe side, the bathing lake will remain closed until at least Wednesday to enable an undisturbed search and to prevent bathers from possibly coming across a body in the water Esslinger newspaper reported.
Search operations and security precautions
Around 70 emergency services, including the fire department, are involved in the search efforts. The alarm was quickly raised after the swimmer was reported missing. No evidence of a missing person has been found so far and there is no discarded clothing that could point to the swimmer. In order to make the situation safe, barriers and warning signs were installed on the bank that make it clear: “Swimming is currently not possible!” Nevertheless, some excursionists were not aware of the bathing ban and behaved carelessly.
Visitors to Lake Aileswasense are temporarily using outdoor pools, while the “Seehaus” beer garden remains open, but the lake shore area has been cordoned off. The DLRG is still searching intensively with sonar devices, but so far without success. It is hoped that further technical assistance can make the search easier.
The situation at Lake Aileswasen remains tense as authorities continue to make every effort to find the missing swimmer. The bathing lake will remain closed until the search is completed in order not to endanger the safety of bathers.
