TUI and smart: Green mobility for your next vacation!
The TUI Group and smart Deutschland have launched an exclusive partnership that aims to make electromobility more visible and tangible both at holiday destinations and in everyday life. The collaboration was announced on June 6, 2025 and is part of the TUI Group's comprehensive sustainability strategy “People, Planet, Progress”. This initiative aims to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions in various sectors, including airlines, hotels and cruises, by 2030. According to media.smart.com, TUI plans to increase the electric vehicle quota in its fleet to 80-90% by 2030.
A central element of the partnership is the introduction of exclusive special models based on the fully electric smart models #1 and #3. The plan is for these new models to come onto the market from summer 2025. An edition of the new smart #5 is also expected. “We not only want to offer our customers sustainable mobility, but also enhance their holiday experience,” explained TUI CEO Sebastian Ebel when the collaboration was announced.
Sustainable mobility in holiday destinations
Another important aspect of the cooperation is the expansion of the charging infrastructure. By 2030, charging stations for electric cars should be available at 1,000 hotel locations worldwide. This measure, which also includes the availability of smart vehicles at tourist destinations in Germany, is crucial for promoting sustainable mobility in holiday travel. TUI customers who purchase a special model also receive travel vouchers and special navigation technology that points to TUI hotels and charging points, making the use of the vehicles particularly convenient.
Overall, the aim is for 90% of company vehicles, 90% of operational vehicles and 80-90% of guest transfers to be electrically powered. These goals are part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce emissions in the travel industry and mark a decisive step towards environmentally friendly mobility.
Strategic importance of the partnership
The cooperation between the TUI Group and smart is not only a measure to promote electromobility, but is also intended to increase TUI's visibility and emotional brand loyalty. Wolfgang Ufer, CEO of smart Deutschland, emphasizes that the partnership offers an opportunity to expand its own sustainable initiatives while offering customers attractive and environmentally friendly options. Details on prices and features of the vehicles will be announced in the near future.
Both companies are optimistic that the electrification of the vehicle fleet will not only contribute to the sustainability strategy, but will also create a new, environmentally conscious travel experience for customers. TUI is thus positioning itself as a pioneer in the tourism industry when it comes to sustainable mobility, and smart is consolidating its status as a provider of intelligent electric vehicles in the premium segment.
