Kirchheim is building: Red administration building for 23 million euros!

The city of Kirchheim unter Teck is planning to build a modern administration building with a total budget of 23 million euros. The new building is scheduled to open at the beginning of 2026 so that citizens have a modern point of contact. The new building will stand out with a striking red wooden facade, which is based on the historic town hall nearby. This design is intended to underline the character of the city and at the same time create a friendly atmosphere.

The administrative staff are currently spread across several rented locations that are no longer up to date. The new building will therefore be a central building in which the citizens' service, the registry office and the departments for immigration and education are united under one roof. According to Stuttgarter Nachrichten, the city places particular emphasis on accessibility and design friendly spaces.

Innovative design

The new building is not only visually appealing, but also sets new standards in construction. It will be constructed as a timber hybrid structure that promotes ecological and sustainable construction practices, including the use of solar roof tiles and geothermal and heat pump technology. These aspects were discussed extensively in a local council resolution at the end of 2023 before the project was decided on despite the high costs in order to create a modern and sustainable vision for the city.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction project took place on January 20, 2024, after the local council officially approved the construction on January 18, 2024. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on January 3, 2025, after over a thousand wooden elements were delivered from Binderholz in Tyrol. The construction work is progressing quickly, the central reinforced concrete elevator shaft has already been completed, which indicates that the project will be implemented quickly, as Kirchheim Teck reports.

Rooms for the public

The new building will have a spacious foyer, a waiting area and an information point on the ground floor. Offices for a total of 111 employees are planned on three floors in order to meet the increased requirements. In addition, a small and a large multifunctional room with a kitchenette are planned on the upper floor, which can be used for events or weddings and can also be rented outside of office hours.

In order to ensure access to the new building during the construction period, this will be provided temporarily via a side entrance. In addition, the city is planning to visually upgrade the roller skating area on the opposite gable side in order to make the surroundings of the new administration building more attractive.
