On Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident on the A5 near Appenweier at around 6:30 a.m. A 61-year-old driver of an Aston Martin apparently lost control of his vehicle, resulting in a high-profile collision. According to initial findings, a burst tire is suspected to be the possible cause of the accident. The vehicle hit both a guardrail and a concrete wall before finally coming to a stop in the middle lane. The accident occurred on the southbound lane between Achern and Appenweier, where the traffic situation was severely affected.
The two occupants of the vehicle, the driver and his 27-year-old passenger, suffered serious injuries and had to be taken immediately to a nearby hospital. The police have now started an investigation into the exact cause of the accident and have entrusted the Bühl motorway police with clarifying what happened. The entire scenario resulted in significant traffic jams and closure of the affected stretch of highway until approximately 10:00 a.m.
Traffic measures and property damage
The police and rescue workers were quickly on site to initiate the necessary measures to investigate the accident, recover the vehicle and clean the streets. An estimated property damage of around 100,000 euros was found. Such serious accidents highlight the dangers in road traffic, especially when there are technical defects in a vehicle.
The highway was temporarily blocked following the accident, causing significant traffic and delays during the early hours of the morning.
