SVP conquers local council seat in Hochdorf for the first time – Bucher wins!

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the Swiss People's Party (SVP) achieved a historic success in Hochdorf LU. Mario Bucher was elected as a new member of the local council, marking the first SVP seat in this body. This emerges from several reports, including swissinfo.ch and bote.ch.

Bucher, who was born in 1991 and is a trained chef and innkeeper's license holder, received 1,548 votes. His competitor Fabian Britschgi from the Green Liberal Party (GLP) followed with 1,419 votes. The absolute majority was 1,498 votes. With a voter turnout of 49 percent, the result is particularly pleasing for the SVP, as the Social Democratic Party (SP) is no longer represented in the local council.

Entry into the local council and changes

Mario Bucher has been a member of the cantonal council since 2020 and worked on the residents' council of Emmen LU from 2016 to 2023. His election to the local council is an important step for the SVP, which is gaining influence after the deselection of the SP, whose Gaby Oberson resigned in May 2024 for health reasons and due to criticism of the work of the building authority.

The remaining four seats in the local council are occupied by the center and the FDP, which is significantly changing the political landscape in Hochdorf LU. The SVP has thus established itself in new territory for it and could take on a stronger role in local politics in the future.

National votes and their results

On this day, not only the local council elections took place in Hochdorf, but also national votes in which two proposals were decided. According to srf.ch, Swiss voters voted on the abolition of the imputed rental value and the introduction of the E-ID.

These national results show a clear contrast between the regions, with a majority of yes votes in German-speaking Switzerland and a majority of no votes in French-speaking Switzerland. The decided system change to abolish the imputed rental value could have far-reaching consequences for tax policy in Switzerland.

Overall, the election result in Hochdorf reflects the current political change in Switzerland. The SVP has not only become more successful at the local level, but national issues also seem to have a lasting influence on voter behavior.
