Paralympics star Catherine Debrunner inspires in Hochdorf on June 8th!
On June 8, 2025, the two Swiss personalities Catherine Debrunner and Christoph Walter will be guests at the Braui Cultural Center in Hochdorf/LU. The event will begin at 10 a.m., with the public asked to arrive between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. This promises to be an exciting morning as both guests delivered outstanding performances in their respective disciplines.
Catherine Debrunner, who was born in Mettendorf on April 11, 1995, is a notable athlete who competes in the T53 class of wheelchair athletes. After her impressive performance at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, where she won five gold and one silver medals, she is now one of the best athletes in her category. Her medals include victory in the T54 marathon and she recently held five world records, including one in the 100 meters, which she recently improved. She has represented this outstanding talent on Team Switzerland since 2008 and also has numerous medals from World and European Championships as well as from the Paralympics.
The path to becoming an athlete
Her passion for wheelchair riding developed at the age of eight when she took part in a polysport camp in Nottwil. In order to benefit from the first-class training conditions at the Nottwil Paraplegic Center, she has lived in the canton of Lucerne for six years. She also met her future coach Paul Odermatt and has been coached by Arno Mul since 2021.
Debrunner describes herself as cosmopolitan, active and close to nature. She is a trained primary school teacher and, in addition to German, speaks English, French, Dutch and Spanish fluently. Her handicap, which left her competing in a wheelchair, is the result of a coccygeal teratoma, a malformation tumor in the spine.
Musical talent
Christoph Walter, on the other hand, brings a completely different art form into focus. As a composer and conductor, he grew up in a musical family in Hirzel/ZH. With classical training at the Zurich University of Music, he built his career in Swiss military music over 20 years and was instrumental in the development of the Swiss army game. In 2009 he founded the “Christoph Walter Orchestra” and has been Principal Director of Music at the Basel Tattoo since 2010. Walter will be the musical director of the Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival in Mollis in 2025.
Every year Walter gives concerts at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, where he performs with, among others, the British singer Amy MacDonald. He currently lives in Sursee/LU and has been married to the singer Nelly Patty for over six years.
In Hochdorf, the two guests combine two impressive facets of human creativity through their outstanding achievements and life stories - competitive sports and music. The audience can look forward to inspiring insights and an exciting discussion.
