Eberspächer secures jobs in Esslingen: Agreement reached with IG Metall!

Eberspächer, a renowned automotive supplier based in Esslingen am Neckar, has reached a significant agreement with the works council and IG Metall. This agreement particularly affects the future of the employees at the location. While many companies in the German automotive supply industry, including major players such as Bosch and ZF, are implementing cost reduction measures and often considering job cuts, Eberspächer has now been able to take an important step towards the stability of its workforce. Figures confirm the challenges currently facing the industry and the need for effective action.

According to reports from FNP The entire industry is suffering from a current crisis situation. In view of this, Eberspächer's agreement is particularly noteworthy. This includes the creation of an additional collective agreement that is valid until December 31, 2027 and largely excludes dismissals at the headquarters - unless there is mutual consent.

Details of the agreement

A central element of the agreement is the increase in weekly working hours at the headquarters to 37 hours, without any salary adjustment being foreseen. However, employees will be given the opportunity to choose a pay cut instead, as far as flexibility in working conditions is concerned. In addition, regulations have been made regarding vacation and Christmas bonuses: In 2025, these will be reduced to 50% of a monthly salary, while 60% is set for the years 2026 and 2027.

In addition to the increase in working hours, bonus payments are also planned, which can be paid retroactively if the company's financial situation improves. IG Metall described the agreement as a “bitter toad” because it deviates from the usual collective agreements, but also emphasized that protection against dismissal is a positive aspect. From a city perspective, this decision could mean that employees at the Esslingen location have more security in uncertain times.

Financial situation of Eberspächer

Regarding the company's financial situation, Eberspächer was able to achieve a remarkable operating result of 114.1 million euros in 2024, almost doubling compared to 58 million euros in 2023, even with a 16% decline in sales. This stabilizing development comes after the agreement for the Neunkirchen (Saarland) location reached in 2023, which also excludes operational dismissals until 2027.

This agreement was made possible not least by the size of the company, which currently employs 10,680 people and achieved sales of 5.3 billion euros in 2024. However, the challenges facing the industry remain, and the agreement of Mercury represents a step towards securing the workforce and the required capacities at the location.
