Newcomers to the green paradise: Hobelsbergers open their dream garden!
The “Open Gardens” campaign will take place in the region on Whitsun Sunday, June 8, 2025. This event allows garden lovers to discover and experience their neighbors' green oases. This year Andrea and Heinrich Hobelsberger from Neuhausen are also taking part in the campaign for the first time. Their impressive garden covers more than 1000 square meters and features a colorful mix of perennials, fruit and thoughtful landscaping. A clearly visible poster on the mailbox indicates your participation. This is reported by the Esslinger Zeitung.
The “Open Gardens in Esslingen and the Middle Neckar Area” campaign is organized by Michael Eppinger, who gives the Hobelsbergers valuable tips for their first appearance as hosts. Garden enthusiasts can not only marvel at the diversity in the Hobelsberger family's garden, but also benefit from the experience of the initiator.
New perspectives on gardens
Parallel to this campaign, various events about garden culture are also taking place in the area. Particularly noteworthy is Juliane Schick's garden in Stuttgart. Here the focus is on food plants that serve as a food source for insects and butterflies. The successful combination of edible wild plants, aromatic and medicinal herbs makes this garden a small biotope in the middle of the city of Stuttgart. In this approximately 2,000 square meter garden, peonies bloom in spring, while roses bloom lavishly in the summer months. A small pond as well as fruit trees and berry bushes complete the overall picture.
Visitors can visit Juliane Schick's garden by appointment, even on weekends from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Access is via Hohentwielstraße 178, where the entrance is behind the house. Anyone interested can easily reach the garden by public transport to the Südheimer Platz stop.
A sound experience in the countryside
In addition, the special event “Rendezvous in the Garden” took place in 2023, which focused on the soundscapes in gardens and parks. This included not only concerts, readings and guided tours, but also natural sounds from the surrounding area, such as the chirping of nightingales or the humming of insects. The musical diversity accompanied the garden visits with jazz, classical music and poetry and offered many opportunities to exchange ideas about garden topics. The event was in its fifth year and celebrated the theme “Every garden has its own music” across Europe.
Garden lovers should mark June 8, 2025 in red on their calendars now. The open gardens in the region promise both informative and aesthetic experiences, coupled with the unique soundscapes that bring the gardening season to life.
