Porsche is taking tough action against imitators – focus on trademark rights!
The prestigious Ferry Porsche Prize will be awarded in Stuttgart on May 26, 2025. This award honors excellence in the automotive industry and recognizes innovative ideas and concepts that could shape the future of driving. “We are pleased to use the Ferry Porsche Prize as a platform to promote talented minds and their visions,” says Porsche management. The award is not only a tribute to the company founder Ferry Porsche, but also an incentive for future generations of engineers and designers.
In this context, it is important to point out the legal framework that Porsche observes in its communication. All content in the Porsche Newsroom is subject to copyright and may only be used for editorial purposes. Commercial use of the content is not permitted, and any distribution or editing requires the permission of Porsche, as Porsche Newsroom reports.
Legal notices and trademark rights
The issue of brand protection is particularly important for Porsche, as the company holds extensive trademark rights, including the distinctive Porsche emblem and well-known model names such as “911” and “Cayman”. Recently, Porsche AG has taken action to combat imitations. For example, warnings were issued against online retailers who illegally advertised with the Porsche name and emblems, informs anwalt.de.
A striking example concerns a dealer on mobile.de who was accused of illegally using the Porsche coat of arms and terms such as “Speedster”. Legal representation is provided by the law firm UNIT4 IP from Stuttgart, which is responsible for enforcing trademark rights and requires pre-formulated cease-and-desist declarations.
Porsche emphasizes that such a warning should be taken seriously. Those affected should seek legal advice before signing a cease and desist declaration. According to German law and a BGH ruling from 2015, advertising for converted Porsche vehicles is permitted under certain conditions. Nevertheless, individual case checks are necessary here.
Availability of information and liability
Porsche also points out its responsibility for the content of its websites. Although Porsche Holding has carefully checked the information on the websites, no liability is assumed for the completeness or accuracy of the data. Liability for damages resulting from the use of content is also strictly limited.
In order to protect the integrity of the company, Porsche reserves the right to block access to the content in the event of improper use. This shows how seriously the company views its trademark rights and legal obligations.
The Ferry Porsche Prize makes it clear that Porsche is not only a leader in the development of automobiles, but is also actively committed to protecting its brand identity and innovations in the industry. The combination of honor and legal framework reflects Porsche's commitment to combining tradition with forward-looking ideas.
