Athlete Alexander Stepanov: New heights in summer!
Alexander Stepanov from VfL Sindelfingen is showing exceptional running performances this year. The 20-year-old athlete has not only secured a national title at the Indoor Championships in Leipzig, but is also well on his way to surpassing his previous best performances in the upcoming competitions. Stepanov has made a remarkable leap in performance in recent months and expects increased deadline pressure in the coming months. As already planned, competitions are planned in cities such as Dresden, Madrid, Bergen and Tokyo, which he would like to visit in the summer krzbb.de reported.
His current best time over 800 meters is 1:48.32 minutes, which he set in 2023. A year ago, however, his record was 1:53.67 minutes. This represents remarkable progress, especially since he was only recently able to celebrate his first medals and successes, including fifth place at the Youth Indoor DM 2023 in Dortmund. Stepanov describes himself as a “late bloomer” and received significant support from his parents; Above all, his father Oleg, a former 800-meter runner, acted as a mentor and coach, as before athletics.de holds on.
Rising ambitions and challenges
The last few years have been anything but easy for Stepanov. After long periods of physical disadvantages in his youth and injuries such as hip problems and a broken foot in 2022, he has resisted the challenges. He has recovered from his setbacks and finished sixth in the final of the U20 European Championships in Jerusalem in 2023. He achieved a time of 1:49.03 minutes, which took his ambitions to the next level.
The 2024 Indoor DM in Leipzig marked another milestone, where he was able to improve his best time to 1:48.75 minutes in the final. His previous successes have aroused the interest of national coach Georg Schmidt, who finds Stepanov's development impressive. His goal for this year remains the challenge of achieving the European Championship standard of 1:45.20 minutes.
Future plans
In the near future, Stepanov plans to concentrate on his high school diploma before focusing more intensively on his sporting career. It is important to him to stay healthy and continually work on his performance. “I would like to continue to improve my best time,” said the athlete, who is going into the next phase of the competition with great ambition. The next few months promise to be exciting, not just for him, but also for all athletics fans in Germany.
