Daredevil descents: Magstadt youth fire brigade thrills at the soapbox race!

On September 21, 2025, an exciting soap box race took place as part of the 25th anniversary of the Magstadt youth fire department. The event, which revived the traditional style of competition, attracted numerous spectators to the steep Alte Straße in Magstadt. The fastest teams came from Altdorf, while the “Magstadt II” team made it to the final of the best four teams. The cheering atmosphere and sporting achievements made for an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

The SZBZ reported on the enthusiasm of the participants and spectators and particularly highlighted the successful organization by the youth fire department. In addition to the fast-paced racing, the event also offered an opportunity to strengthen community and team spirit among the young fire department members.

Activities of the Magstadt Volunteer Fire Department

The Magstadt fire department has drawn attention to itself with various activities in recent weeks. On September 15, 2025, over 70 fire department comrades drove to Überlingen on Lake Constance in a double-decker bus. There they experienced a tour of the city and had time to explore on their own before traveling on a ship to Unteruhldingen to the car and tractor museum. The day was rounded off with a shared dinner at the Schimpf brewery restaurant in Neustetten. These actions promote cohesion and team building within the fire department.

Another highlight in the last few weeks was the youth fire brigade district cup competition, which took place on July 29, 2025. The Magstadt youth fire brigade organized this competition on the occasion of its anniversary and welcomed 27 groups with over 200 young people and carers from 19 communities. The participants mastered fire brigade and puzzle tasks. Rutesheim 1 took first place, followed by Waldenbuch 1 and Gärtringen 1, which demonstrates the competitiveness of the youth fire department.

In addition to the celebrations and competitions, a new fire engine with a fire water tank of 3000 liters was received in Magstadt on July 12, 2025. This modern vehicle allows water to be dispensed while driving, which significantly increases the fire department's operational capability.

The Magstadt fire department was also involved in social activities, such as supporting the Sindelfingen youth fire department at a “professional fire brigade day” on July 17, 2025, where important firefighting exercises were carried out. In addition, a historically oriented fire brigade exercise took place in Maichingen on May 19, 2025, during which a historical hydrophore was used.

There were also sporting challenges on the program for the comrades from the Magstadt fire department. In August 2025, they successfully took part in the “Fit For Fire Fighting – Stair Running Part II” event in Cologne, where some members climbed 732 steps wearing breathing apparatus. Such competitions not only promote fitness, but also the spirit of camaraderie within the fire department.
