Shots in front of Jettinger town hall: Police are looking for witnesses after a shootout!
On Tuesday evening, May 28, 2025, shortly before 10 p.m., an incident occurred in a parking lot in front of the town hall in Jettingen in which several sounds of gunfire were heard. Residents called 911 and reported at least two people fleeing and a vehicle leaving the parking lot. The initial police findings indicate that several people met in the parking lot before the shots were fired. For this reason, the criminal investigation department at the Ludwigsburg police headquarters is investigating suspected attempted homicide, as Schwarzwälder Bote reports.
On Wednesday, May 29, more than a dozen plainclothes and uniformed police officers continued their search for clues. A police dog was also deployed. Despite the investigation, it remains unclear whether the first operation has already yielded new information. The police are asking possible witnesses to provide relevant information by calling 0800/1100225 or by email to notices.kripo.boeblingen@polizei.bwl.de.
Details about the incident
The incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. in the parking lot not far from the Oberjettinger town hall. The criminal police are still in the process of determining the overall circumstances of what happened and have published appeals for help. Witnesses said they heard several shots immediately before the shooting. At least two people fled on foot, while another vehicle drove away from the area, according to information from Presseportal.
Crime in Germany
The incident in Jettingen is in the context of the general development of crime in Germany. According to the Police Crime Statistics (PKS) from the Federal Criminal Police Office, there was a decrease of 1.7% to around 5.84 million crimes in 2024. The decline is mainly due to the partial legalization of cannabis, but there has been an increase in crimes that affect people's sense of security. Crimes against life, including murder and manslaughter, account for only 0.1% of cases. The highest crime figures were recorded in the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, as Statista notes.
The current situation in Jettingen could therefore be part of a larger trend in which society's perception of violence and crime is changing, despite an overall declining trend in crime rates.
