Roundabout accident in Jettingen: 21-year-old slightly injured!
Last Wednesday, June 5, 2025, there was an accident at the Schönenberger roundabout in Jettingen-Scheppach, in which a 21-year-old woman was slightly injured. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a 65-year-old truck driver failed to notice the young woman's vehicle that had the right of way while entering the roundabout. This led to a collision that caused material damage of around 17,000 euros.
The Jettingen fire department was on site with 15 emergency services to deal with the situation and provide first aid. Despite the 21-year-old's fortunately only minor injuries, the accident had far-reaching consequences for traffic in the roundabout area.
Causes of accidents and traffic rules in roundabouts
Roundabouts are generally known to be safer than traditional intersections because they are typically driven at lower speeds. However, accidents in these traffic systems can often be caused by carelessness, speeding or misjudgment of the traffic situation. According to the road traffic regulations (StVO), vehicles that are already in the roundabout have the right of way. Entering the roundabout also requires compliance with traffic signs 205 (“Give way”) and 215 (“Roundabout”), although flashing when entering is prohibited.
To avoid accidents, drivers should reduce their speed several times when approaching the roundabout and pay attention to pedestrians and cyclists. It is also advisable to keep a sufficient distance from other vehicles. According to the Bussgeldkatalog, the driver who enters the roundabout is usually to blame, which is highlighted in a 2014 ruling by the Saarbrücken Regional Court. If questions of guilt are unclear, it always makes sense to contact the police to initiate an investigation.
The recent incident in Jettingen-Scheppach highlights the importance of observing these rules in order to increase road safety and prevent similar accidents in the future.
