Small van carrying students crashed: five injured in Swabia!
On June 2, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred in Jettingen-Scheppach, Swabia, when an overloaded van with ten people on board ran into oncoming traffic. The van, which was on the way back from school sports to the school in Scheppach, collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle at around 12:10 p.m. The 33-year-old driver of the van is now being investigated for negligent bodily harm.
In addition to the driver, the occupants included nine students between the ages of 14 and 18. However, the van only had nine seats, which indicates that it was overloaded. Five teenagers and the 46-year-old driver of the other car were slightly injured in the collision. All injured people received medical care on site, while the through town had to be closed until around 1:30 p.m. The material damage amounts to around 22,000 euros. According to Merkur, the road conditions at the time were slippery due to rain, which may have contributed to the driver's high speed.
Cause and consequences
Police investigations indicate that the driver of the overloaded van was driving too fast. This resulted in him losing control of the vehicle on wet roads and driving into oncoming traffic. These dangerous circumstances should not be underestimated, as they indicate inadequate road safety and possibly also inadequate planning of school transport.
Investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the accident, and the case raises important questions about the safety and responsible use of school transportation. The Nordbayern emphasizes that such incidents are unfortunately not isolated in the region and more attention is required. It remains to be seen what measures will be taken to increase safety in school transport and prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
