Herrenberg Town Hall: After months of construction work, normality is returning!
After months of construction work, normality is returning to the Herrenberg town hall on the market square. The comprehensive renovation measures, which were carried out in accordance with fire protection regulations and the Building Energy Act, have now been completed. As Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports, employees will return to their original offices from June 2025 after having to leave the town hall during the construction period.
Affected departments include the mayor's office, the main office and the human resources and equal opportunities facilities. The Office for Economic Development and Culture remains housed in the Citizens' Office at Marktplatz 1. The work carried out included the fire protection upgrade of the ceilings and the electrical system, including an insulation layer for the top floor ceiling.
Current construction sites and renovation projects
As part of the planned construction site meeting after the summer break, the Herrenberg local council will gain an overview of the current construction projects in the core city and the surrounding districts. The first stop will be the connecting accommodation on Stadthallenstrasse, where new accommodation capacities for refugees will be created. According to Herrenberg.de, construction has progressed on the site of a former riding arena and is expected to cost around 5.5 million euros. Completion is scheduled for the end of September 2023. Up to 167 more refugees should be able to be accepted there by the end of the year.
In addition, progress on various other significant construction projects in Herrenberg will be discussed. This includes the fourth treatment stage of the sewage treatment plant, construction of which will start in February 2024 and is expected to cost ten million euros. This measure is crucial for the removal of trace substances from wastewater.
The conversion of the listed fruit box on Tübinger Straße is taking place in the context of urban development and is accompanied by archaeological investigations. The revision of the old town statutes, decided on May 14, 2024, aims to protect historical buildings and at the same time promote new living space.
With these extensive renovation measures and new buildings, the city of Herrenberg plans to not only improve the current infrastructure, but also create space for future growth and social integration.
