Traffic chaos in Grafenau: closures and diversions until July 2025!

The traffic disruptions in the Grafenau region will increase significantly in the coming months. From July 1, 2024, the FRG 22 road will be closed due to extensive bridge work [news.de](https://www.news.de/auto/858091073/verkehrsmelde-grafenau-zur-verkehrsstoerung-wegen-baustelle-sperrung-einschraenk ung-from-01-07-2024-to-11-07-2025-restrictions-in-traffic-danger-of-congestion-in-grafenau-postcode-94481-einberg-on-st2132-on-frg-22/1/) reported. The closure lasts until July 11, 2025 and affects both the FRG 22 between Sankt Oswald and the B533 roundabout in Frauenberg and the B533 between the same roundabout and Sankt Oswald. The total distance of the closure extends over 2.6 km on the FRG 22 and 2.5 km on the B533.

The diversion for the FRG 22 takes place via a number of towns, including Schönanger, Elmberg, B533, Neudorf, Lichteneck, Grafenau, Schlag and Frauenberg. The identical diversion route applies to the B533. Road users must expect increased traffic volumes and possible traffic jams, which are to be expected throughout the construction period.

Special regulations for heavy traffic

In addition to the restrictions in Grafenau, there are also changes for heavy traffic in the area, as hna.de reports. In the Gieselwerder region, trucks from the direction of Beverungen are no longer allowed to drive via Bodefelde. Instead, they have to take a diversion via Uslar to protect the drinking water area. The Schäferborn spring, which supplies the community of Bodenfelde with important fresh water, will be particularly protected in the coming months as it also serves as an emergency supply for the community of Wahmbeck.

The diversion route for heavy traffic is extended from 32 to 43 kilometers, while the southern diversion via Hann. Münden remains at 50 kilometers. These measures, which are implemented in collaboration with the Water and Wastewater Association (WAZ) Solling and HessenMobil, are intended to ensure the safety of drinking water. Hazardous goods transporters are not allowed to pass through the source area between Amelith and Bodenfelde.

Those responsible are appealing to heavy-duty drivers to understand the new regulations, which not only serve safety but also protect the environment. The diversions and closures required by the construction work are intended to improve the traffic situation in the region in the long term.
