Revolution in crafts: Sylvia Langer explodes clichés in Tittling!

In an industry that is traditionally dominated by men, Sylvia Langer is setting an example as a master painter from Tittling in the Passau district. With her fiery red hair and eye-catching tattoos, she contradicts many clichés and shows that women are not only welcome in the trades, but also play an important role. Langer has been working in the painting industry for over 20 years and is currently working on a construction site in Schönberg in the Freyung-Grafenau district. “Women in the trades are faced with all the clichés – we are asked to work exactly as we are,” she emphasizes.

The perception of the role of women in the skilled trades has changed significantly in recent years. Christina Völkers, head of the coordination office for the advancement of women, explains that although women are often confronted with prejudice in typically male jobs, their position is increasingly improving. “Women who take up skilled trades are often particularly committed and often complete their exams with top grades,” says Völkers.

A growing number of female professionals

The shortage of skilled workers has done little to change the situation, but a positive trend is emerging: more and more women are choosing careers such as painting, carpentry or roofing. Young women are turning to these professions, showing that they are just as capable of pursuing skilled trades as their male colleagues. Many of these committed women focus on further training and complete master training courses. Some of them then go on to found their own companies, which further drives change in the industry.

The continually increasing number of women in male-dominated professions underlines the increasing acceptance and trust in the skills of women in the skilled trades. Sylvia Langer is an outstanding example of this change. She encourages other women to overcome their prejudices and enter the industry with confidence.
