New regular goalkeeper for the Lions: Vollath as number one!

The summer break at TSV 1860 Munich is currently going quietly. However, squad planning for the coming season is not yet fully finalized, especially in the goalkeeper position, which has made headlines in recent days. As löwenmagazin.de reports, the club has taken big steps towards the new 2025/26 season.

The professionals' training start is scheduled for June 22, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Grünwalder Straße 114. In addition to the starting training, there are also various test games on the program, including a meeting with TSV 1862 Grafenau on June 28th, 2025 and another game against TSV Weyarn on June 29th. The team will also play against FC Eintracht Bamberg on July 4, 2025.

Goalkeeper position clarified

A central issue in the TSV 1860 Munich squad is the decision on the new goalkeeper. René Vollath, who recently moved to the Löwen from SpVgg Unterhaching, will be the club's number one goalkeeper. According to a report by abendzeitung-muenchen.de, this decision was made one day before the opening game against 1. FC Saarbrücken. Vollath, 34 years old, has a contract until 2026 and has chosen the shirt number “11”, which is interpreted as a signal of his ambitions.

Marco Hiller, who was previously established as the starting goalkeeper, is disappointed despite this decision, but remains professional and will continue to support the team as a leader. Coach Argirios Giannikis has stressed that the decision was close and based on nuances. Hiller has been with TSV 1860 since 2008 and has a contract until 2025, which he has defended against competition several times in the past.

Preparation for the new season

The start of the training camp has also been confirmed and will take place from July 6th to 13th, 2025 in Ulrichsberg, Austria. Games against SV Ried and the Czech club Slovan Liberec are planned during this training camp. Finally, a fan festival will be held on July 20, 2025 at Grünwalder Straße 114 at 9:30 a.m. to enable fans to have personal contact with the team.

In summary, TSV 1860 Munich is entering an exciting phase of squad planning, while fans can look forward to the events ahead. With the new goalkeeper and the clear lines in optimizing the squad, coupled with an exciting summer program, it is to be hoped that the Lions can start the new season well prepared.
