Drama about the Perlesreut Bats: CSU calls for a reassessment of the exclusion!
The exclusion of the Perlesreut Bats from Bavarian football recently caused a stir. The team, which emerged from SV Perlesreut, was excluded from league operations by the Bavarian American Football Association (AFVBy) because of the use of a player who was not eligible to play. This decision has now also reached the political level, as Dr. Stefan Ebner, CSU representative from Viechtach, addressed association president Michael Döhla. Ebner criticizes the decision and calls for a rethink on the matter.
Ebner regrets the club's suspension and emphasizes that there was no evidence of intentional misconduct or intent to cheat on the part of the Bats. He points out that the club submitted an application for an exemption in a timely manner, the rejection of which was only announced during a game. The Ukrainian player in question was used in the first regular league game and both the opponent and the referees were aware of the situation.
Political response to sporting consequences
The negative consequences for the club are significant. Ebner points out that the sanction not only causes economic damage to the Bats, but also has a demotivating effect on the entire community. This is particularly clear as the affected player is struggling with considerable feelings of guilt following the incidents and is currently unable to take part in training. Compared to other sporting incidents, such as a substitution error at FC Bayern Munich, which did not result in any sanctions, Ebner calls for a serious review of the decision with a view to fairness and proportionality in amateur sport.
A turnaround seemed to be brewing for the Perlesreut Bats when the AFVBy now also approved the club for friendly games. This gives the team the opportunity to generate income and secure the existence of the entire department, which was threatened by the exclusion. Approval for these games is seen as a first step towards normalizing the situation.
Relief and perspectives
The president of the Bats, Ben Öttl, is relieved by the decision of the association president Michael Döhla. Öttl emphasizes that with the approval to host friendly matches there are now planning options and the situation can be relaxed somewhat. In the last few weeks, the club's supporters have played an important role and shown solidarity with the Perlesreuter footballers. Although the situation remains tense, the team is now optimistic about possible home games and the chance to coordinate with other teams and submit requests for future games.
The coming days and weeks will show whether the efforts to return to normality in Bavarian football will pay off for the Perlesreut Bats.
