Next Monday, July 21, 2025, the biggest construction site sensation of all time will begin in Böblingen! An unprecedented wave of road and infrastructure work is sweeping the city, and citizens should prepare for massive traffic restrictions that could cause months of chaos! [Krzbb] reports that the Herdweg between Gustav-Mahler-Weg and the Beckenklinge gardens will be completely closed for an incredible six weeks! While citizens are suffering from these catastrophic conditions, all this is happening for the sole purpose of establishing a new district heating connection. But that's not enough! The devastating impact of this lockdown is not just affecting Herdweg. Entire streets are being destroyed! From July 23rd to 30th, 2025, Vaihinger Straße in the area where it intersects with Silberweg will disappear under an avalanche of construction sites, while Silberweg between Vaihinger Straße and Ludwig-Richter-Straße will also be closed for the long overdue renovation of the roadway. Through traffic is redirected via the Waldorf school bus turning point - a nightmare for all commuters!
Events and closures – playing with fire!
The city has decided to hold several events during this chaotic phase - a decision that has been criticized as irresponsible! From July 23rd to 27th, Böblingen will be the stage for “Feasting by the Lake” and the city run, while chaos-causing construction sites are simultaneously causing unprecedented traffic chaos! The complete closure of Tübinger Strasse with the Alba Bridge and Uferstrasse is just the tip of the iceberg in a sea of traffic restrictions that have devastating consequences for the Congress Hall's underground car park!
The entire construction activity extends through Herrenberger Straße and Kohlergasse, both of which will be closed for the renewal of electricity connections and other catastrophic activities. Pedestrians must be prepared for detours that resemble a confusing maze. Instead of easy paths, they have to balance over Reußensteinstrasse and Herdweg - a gauntlet that becomes a physical and mental challenge!
