Urner masterpiece: Qualification for the Federal Yodelling Festival achieved!

The anticipation for the Federal Yodeling Festival is growing, because the Uri Alphorn and Flag Throwing Association Uri (AFVU) made a great impression at the regional sub-association festival in Menznau. The group competed with 29 alphorn players and achieved the top grade of 1, which is required for participation in the Federal Yodelling Festival. As the obwaldnerzeitung.ch reported, the people of Uri presented a piece of music by Toni Gisler senior and mastered the musical challenges under the direction of Willi Truttmann. All Uri participants successfully qualified for the Federal Yodelling Festival, which will take place in Basel from July 26th to 28th, 2024.

The Federal Yodeling Festival is an important event in Swiss customs and takes place every three years. Participation is only possible with a very good rating in the regional sub-association festivals. While last weekend was successful in Menznau, the next big festival is imminent in Zug, where the Federal Yodelling Festival 2023 will take place with an expected number of visitors of 150,000 people. More than 10,000 active participants, including yodelers and flag wavers, have registered. This information comes from nau.ch.

Parade and events

A highlight of this year's festival will be the big parade, which will take place on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. Viewers can look forward to 60 numbers that will provide entertainment and a festive atmosphere. The preparation period for this important event lasts three years and includes numerous rehearsals and events to bring the performances to the highest level.

In addition, there will be a total of 11 lecture halls where participants can demonstrate their skills. Festival visitors can look forward to 622 yodeling lectures, 392 alphorn performances and 160 flag presentations. At the “Yodelfest Mile” along the Zug lake promenade, around 50 food stalls and 10 festival tents await festival guests to ensure their physical well-being.

In addition, the festival is supported by 1,550 volunteers who work behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that the tradition of yodeling and Alpine music is upheld. The enthusiastic participation and the variety of performances make the Federal Yodelling Festival an unforgettable experience for everyone involved and spectators.
