Doctor reports in Lauf: Hope in the Andes without government help!

On June 4, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Klaus-Dieter John will give an insightful lecture in the Christ Church in Lauf. As part of this event, which is organized in cooperation with the Alpha bookstore Lauf and the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dr. John report on the construction of a modern hospital in the Peruvian Andes without government support. This initiative, considered a remarkable example of humanitarian commitment, refers to the Diospi Suyana Hospital, which has been successfully serving the indigenous Quechua population in Apurímac, Peru since 2007. n-land.de reports that the hospital offers medical care of European standards, supplemented by a children's clubhouse, a school and a media center.

Diospi Suyana was founded by Dr. Klaus Dieter and Dr. Martina John, inspired by the humanitarian ideals of Albert Schweitzer. Located at an altitude of 2,650 meters in the Andes, the facility is one of the largest employers in the Apurímac region, with approximately 140 employees, including 110 Peruvians and 40 foreign professionals. Every year, around 750,000 people reach the clinic within a three-hour radius, which operates under the umbrella of the World Evangelical Alliance. Wikipedia highlights that Diospi Suyana is entirely dependent on donations and has an international support base of 945 people. The facility has treated over 125,000 patients since it opened.

The contribution to health care

Health care in developing countries often faces enormous challenges. Factors such as poverty, lack of access to clean drinking water and inadequate sanitation significantly increase the risk of disease. bmz.de highlights that people who live in poverty often have no opportunity to take out health insurance or social security. In this context, Diospi Suyana's commitment is of outstanding importance, as the hospital not only provides medical care, but also initiates programs to train local staff and educate the population about health issues.

During the event, Dr. John will also present his fourth book “An Experiment with God”, which deals with the experiences during the construction of the clinic. In addition, personal experiences and pictures from his time in the Andes will be presented, which will give listeners an impressive insight into the work on site. Admission to the event is free, but spectators are welcome to learn more about Diospi Suyana's inspiring achievements.
