Altdorf is looking forward to the opening of the new outdoor pool with slide!

On Saturday, May 31st, the long-awaited outdoor pool in the Altdorf swimming pool will be ceremoniously opened. This begins the summer season, which lasts until July 4th. The outdoor pool is open from Tuesday to Sunday during this time. During the Uri school summer holidays, from July 5th to August 17th, visitors can expect the doors to be open daily between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. In addition to the opening ceremony of the outdoor pool, renovation work will also begin in the indoor pool, which will remain closed from Monday, June 2nd until the end of October 2025. This was stated in a report by Tagblatt.ch highlighted.

The renovation measures are comprehensive and affect the entire indoor swimming pool. This includes the large swimming pool, the showers, toilet facilities as well as the ventilation, heating and bathing water technology. The operators would like to accommodate visitors even while the indoor swimming pool is closed. Reduced entry prices apply and a special summer subscription offer is available. All annual subscriptions will be paused and automatically renewed upon reopening, with credit for all closing days.

New attractions and investments

Particularly noteworthy is the opening of a new 82 meter long water slide, which was also unveiled last week. This is the result of an extensive fundraising campaign supported by the public and sponsors. The climb to the slide takes place via a spiral staircase next to the jumping facility with a height of eight meters. The slide runs along the outside of the building into a separate collecting basin inside. Felix Mattli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the swimming pool cooperative, warmly thanked all supporters for their contributions. Loud Uri newspaper Light attractions will also enrich the sliding fun.

The municipality of Altdorf has also invested in the infrastructure of the swimming pool, including installing a photovoltaic system on the new pitched roof. As part of the first renovation phase, the hall roof, the exhaust system and the lighting were also renewed, which is expected to receive a positive response from users. The costs for this first stage amount to around eight million francs.

Sustainability and ecological measures

The operating company has also ensured that the building is now structurally reinforced and earthquake-proof. The second and third stages of the renovation work include the renewal of the swimming pool, the indoor pool ventilation as well as the plumbing and heating distribution. Investments in the restaurant, kitchen and showers will also take place in the next phases. These measures are in line with the legal requirements for water protection issued by FOEN have been defined.

The legal requirements for ecological restoration prove that existing hydropower plants have negative impacts on water habitats that must be remedied by 2030. The condition of Switzerland's waters is severely affected and 70% of native fish and crab species are threatened as a result. In this context, the sustainable redesign of the swimming pool represents an important step both for visitors and for protecting the environment.

With all of these measures and news, the operators hope to generate financial income through admission fees after the indoor swimming pool reopens. Despite the weather-related challenges of last season, which only represented a third of expected revenue, the collective hope remains that the new attractions and investments will stimulate visitor interest.
