Wangen cheers: Almost 16 million euros for mega-important projects!

Wangen im Allgäu can look forward to significant financial support from the federal government's newly established “Special Investment Fund”. The city will receive around 15.8 million euros, as state parliament members Raimund Haser (CDU), Petra Krebs (Greens) and Martin Gerster (SPD) announced. During the budget discussions, treasurer Yvonne Winder presented various investment projects that are planned for the coming years.

The planned projects include the renovation of the Argensporthalle, the new construction of the Isnyer Bridge, a new skate park at the youth center and measures to improve flood protection. Expanding the elementary school in Ebnet is also on the city's agenda.

Regulations on special assets

The Ministry of Finance announced that the funds would be distributed as a flat rate to the municipalities, without any further requirements. Each municipality receives a set budget for investments, which must be used within three months to pay bills that are due. The funds can be accessed over a period of twelve years, with measures eligible for funding from January 1, 2025. A publication of the individual budgets, which are based on the number of inhabitants and tax revenue, is planned.

The new special fund was made possible by an amendment to the Basic Law in March 2025 and totals over 500 billion euros. Its goal is to modernize the infrastructure in Germany through loan-financed investments and to achieve climate neutrality by 2045. It is divided into three pillars: 100 billion euros for states and municipalities, 100 billion euros for the climate and transformation fund and 300 billion euros for additional federal investments, as declared by the federal government .

Investments for the future

The need for this special fund arises from the existing deficiencies in the public infrastructure, which include, among other things, dilapidated roads and slow internet. In order to secure Germany's prosperity and competitiveness in the long term, comprehensive investments are planned in important areas such as transport, education and digitalization .

A total of 37 billion euros is planned for investments for 2025, whereby the expenditure on investments in the federal budget must exceed at least ten percent of the estimated total expenditure in order to be able to use additional funds from the special fund. The investment backlog in Germany is currently estimated at several hundred billion euros, which underlines the urgency of the measures.

For Wangen, this financial support not only represents an opportunity to improve the municipal infrastructure, but also a strategic investment in the future of the city. The city's budget plan, which also takes these funds into account, is expected to be adopted on December 8th.

In summary, it can be said that the city of Wangen can use the 15.8 million euros made available to specifically invest in the quality of life of its citizens, while at the same time the special fund represents an important measure by the federal government to make Germany's entire infrastructure future-proof.
