Silvia Gygax wins gold at the senior bowling championships!

The 2025 Senior Championships of the Swiss Free Bowling Association (SFKV) took place in Zollbrück this year and ended on May 28th. A total of 42 senior women and 276 seniors took part in the competitions, which took place from May 5th to 28th at the Gasthof zum Rössli. The event was organized by the SFKV Emmental sub-association and the Lüderenblick bowling club, which ensured that it ran smoothly.

In women's category B, Silvia Gygax from Wangen near Olten was the most successful participant. She secured the gold medal with 454 wood. The competition was strong and the performances were consistently impressive. Particularly noteworthy is the A competition, which Maria-Theresia Wyss from Aarwangen won with an impressive result of 457 wood, followed by Bernadette Beyeler from Lucerne with 449 wood and Doris Abrecht from Wattenwil, who reached third place with 444 wood.

Competition highlights

The heart of the championship are the exciting competitions in the various categories. In the B women's category, Renate Caluori from Wolfwil achieved silver with 442 wood, while Marianne Kramer from Lyss took home the bronze medal with 432 wood. In the women's C competition, Doris Schmid from Ringgenberg BE triumphed with an excellent performance of 433 wood. She was followed by Liselotte Imhof from Wünnewil and Anna Hochuli from Richenthal with 412 and 400 wood.

In the A-seniors, Stefan Kocsis from Liesberg Dorf impressed with an excellent maximum of 500 wood and thus became the gold medalist of the entire competition. Fridolin Wicki from Emmenbrücke won the silver medal with 489 wood, and Adriano Arber from Gränichen rounded off the podium with 485 wood.

Tradition and development

The senior and veteran championship has been held by the Swiss Free Bowling Association (SFKV) since 1954. The first competition took place in the Sternen restaurant in Sissach. The regulations have evolved over time; In 2016, for example, it was decided that winners would be chosen in all categories A, B and C in order to make the competition more exciting. The veteran badges were awarded for the first time in 1966, representing a special award for outstanding achievements.

The event also offers sponsorship opportunities, which have been available since 2015, to promote the sport of bowling. Sponsors and companions help increase prize money and support bowling events. The aim of the sponsorship is to make national bowling more attractive and to attract new members.

With eligibility open to seniors in their 50th birthday year, seniors age 55 and older, and veterans age 65 and older, bowling remains open to all ages and promotes community among athletes.

The championship shows once again that bowling is alive in Switzerland and that the solidarity among those involved remains strong. It is expected that this tradition will continue in future years and that new talent will take the stage.

Further information and details on the results can be found in the reports from Uri newspaper and on the official website of the SFKV.
