Today, May 26, 2025, three mobile radar boxes are in use in Stuttgart. This mobile traffic monitoring is part of the police in Baden-Württemberg's ongoing efforts to increase safety on the roads. Speed monitoring takes place at various points in the city, which can be set temporarily. In particular, speed camera locations are known today, including Bundesstraße 14 in Untertürkheim, Ludwigsburger Straße in Zuffenhausen and Robert-Koch-Straße in Vaihingen.
The speed limits at the reported locations vary: On the B 14 a maximum speed of 80 km/h may not be exceeded, on Ludwigsburger Straße it is 50 km/h and on Robert-Koch-Straße only 30 km/h is permitted. Speed monitoring is intended to ensure that road users follow the applicable rules and prevent accidents caused by excessive speed.
Speed limits and possible consequences
In Stuttgart, the state capital of Baden-Württemberg with over half a million inhabitants, there are a variety of speed limits that vary depending on the type of road and location. In addition to the mobile speed cameras, stationary speed cameras are also installed in the city. On the B10, for example, there is a speed limit of 50 km/h, while on the B14 the speed is monitored at certain points by traffic lights.
High fines can be imposed for speeding. The Road Traffic Act (StVO) regulates sanctions, which can range from fines to points in Flensburg to driving bans. In order to control traffic, a fine procedure is initiated if a speed camera photo is taken. This shows how seriously the city takes monitoring road safety, especially when traffic is heavy.
Technological support
In Stuttgart, in addition to conventional speed cameras, innovative technologies such as speed camera trailers that can work autonomously are also used. These measures are supplemented by modern measurement technology to monitor speed limits in 30 km/h zones and other relevant areas. It is also important for road users to know that radar detectors in cars and real-time warning apps on smartphones are prohibited according to paragraph 23, paragraph 1b of the StVO. Traffic monitoring should not be disrupted or displayed prematurely.
Given the high traffic volume on the streets and the large number of motorways in Stuttgart, it is crucial that traffic rules are adhered to. The police and other traffic enforcement authorities do everything they can to ensure that road users comply with the applicable regulations. Traffic congestion and dangers for pedestrians can of course be reduced.
