Wrong-way driver causes frontal crash: Two seriously injured in Stuttgart!
A serious traffic accident occurred on Sunday morning around 5:30 a.m. on the L1187 in Stuttgart-Süd when a 31-year-old wrong-way driver collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle in a long right-hand bend. The wrong-way driver, who was coming from the Schattenring towards the city center, used the right lane and overlooked the properly driving car of a 54-year-old man who was working for a nursing service.
In the accident, two passengers of the wrong-way driver, aged 33 and 40, were seriously injured, while the two drivers escaped with minor injuries. After receiving initial treatment, all four people involved were immediately taken to nearby hospitals. Both vehicles were totaled, which underlines the drama of the incident.
Cause of accident unclear
The police are currently not ruling out the possibility that the wrong-way driver may have turned around to get onto the wrong lane. However, the reason for his misconduct remains unclear. The L1187 had to be closed out of town for around two hours in order to secure the accident site and treat the injured.
Witnesses to the accident are urged to contact the police on 0711-8990 4100. Investigators hope that further information can help reconstruct the exact course of the accident.
This incident raises questions about road safety, particularly in the Stuttgart region. As SWR reports, there have been repeated reports of wrong-way drivers recently, which could indicate a potentially worrying pattern in the behavior of drivers.
A police spokesman will comment on the incident several times throughout the day to provide further information, as n-tv reports. The public is urged to drive more carefully and be alert on the roads to avoid such tragic accidents in the future.
