Russia's brutal drone attack on Kyiv – Zelensky calls for immediate help!
In another massive attack, Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Kiev with several dozen combat drones and ballistic missiles. According to military administration chief Tymur Tkachenko, several fires broke out in residential buildings in the Solomyanka district. One man was injured in the attacks and damage was also found in at least four other parts of the city. Anti-aircraft fire could be heard in the city area for hours during the attack, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The Ukrainian Air Force also reported the use of a hypersonic Kinzhal missile by Russia. In particular, the Vasylkiv military air base south of Kiev was a key target. These attacks have been described as some of the largest since the start of the conflict and come in a context in which Ukraine has been fighting the Russian war of aggression for more than three years.
The presence of civilian casualties and structures damaged by falling debris and rocket attacks is worrying. In total, 14 people were injured in these attacks alone, which highlights the need for international reactions. President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the EU to strengthen its arms industry and call for new sanctions against Russia to prevent the conflict from escalating further. Zelensky sharply criticized the attacks and noted that Moscow was responsible for prolonging the war. In this regard, he also emphasized the importance of arms deliveries and sanctions for Europe's security. Russian attacks also recently resulted in deaths and injuries in Donetsk, and a couple was injured in a drone strike in Kharkiv.
International diplomacy and arms supplies
In response to the ongoing attacks, Zelensky has scheduled a meeting with US President Trump to discuss the recent halt in the supply of certain missiles and ammunition to Ukraine. US media have reportedly reported this delivery stoppage, but the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has not received any official notification of a final halt to delivery plans. Denmark is therefore demanding that European states fill the possible gaps caused by US aid.
A phone call between Putin and Trump also called for a diplomatic solution, with Russia stressing the need to receive proposals from Ukraine to address the causes of the conflict. This opens up space for possible negotiations as pressure grows on the EU to become more involved in matters.
Ukraine has also carried out its own drone strikes on targets in the Moscow region in recent days, further escalating tensions between the two countries. The conflict remains a central issue in international politics and developments in Kyiv continue to be closely monitored.
