Salzwedel is celebrating an impressive weekend with the 21st Salzwedel Hanseatic Festival and the 27th Altmärkisches Heimatfest, which are characterized by visitor numbers that exceed expectations. On June 28, 2025, the city was transformed into a center of community action and experience in a historical ambience. The mayor speaks emphatically about the functioning of the Hanseatic League as a medieval trading association and the modern, modern Hanseatic League, which promotes togetherness, and emphasizes the support of local and national partners.
The festival begins on Saturday with various events that are both traditional and modern. For the little ones there is an area on the Hohe Brücke with hands-on activities and a mobile library, while on Neuperverstrasse a vintage car exhibition highlights the nostalgic aspect of the festival. The traveling exhibition for the Altmärkisches Heimatfest will be shown in the Katharinenkirche, as well as free admission to the Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum.
A highlight for the entire community
The program continues on Sunday, June 29, 2025. In addition to an ecumenical service, the final parade is expected, the highlight of the weekend. Other artists will then have their say on the stages in the Burggarten and at the Mönchskirche to entertain the audience.
