Hanseatic Festival and local festival: Salzwedel celebrates with music and tradition!
Salzwedel is celebrating an impressive weekend with the 21st Salzwedel Hanseatic Festival and the 27th Altmärkisches Heimatfest, which are characterized by visitor numbers that exceed expectations. On June 28, 2025, the city was transformed into a center of community action and experience in a historical ambience. The mayor speaks emphatically about the functioning of the Hanseatic League as a medieval trading association and the modern, modern Hanseatic League, which promotes togetherness, and emphasizes the support of local and national partners.
The festival begins on Saturday with various events that are both traditional and modern. Salzwedel.de reports that the historic Hanseatic market with its stands for culinary delicacies and lively conversations is a central element of the festival. Participating partner cities such as Mühlhausen present themselves at the Mönchskirche, while the Salzwedel fire department and radio amateurs provide entertainment on Breite Straße.
Diverse program and attractions
The local festival program offers something for everyone. The stage on the town hall tower will host performances by groups such as the Salzwedel City Rifle Guild and the Salwedel Shanty Choir. Saturday is rounded off by the musical sounds of the band “Schwarzbrand” and the DJ performance by Team DJ JPD Salzwedel.
For the little ones there is an area on the Hohe Brücke with hands-on activities and a mobile library, while on Neuperverstrasse a vintage car exhibition highlights the nostalgic aspect of the festival. The traveling exhibition for the Altmärkisches Heimatfest will be shown in the Katharinenkirche, as well as free admission to the Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum.
A highlight for the entire community
The program continues on Sunday, June 29, 2025. In addition to an ecumenical service, the final parade is expected, the highlight of the weekend. Other artists will then have their say on the stages in the Burggarten and at the Mönchskirche to entertain the audience.
Overall, the Hanseatic Festival is a festival that embodies the idea of living and acting together in the region. “We are looking forward to another festival that celebrates the community in Salzwedel and makes new friends,” said the organizers hansefest-salzwedel.de. Despite all the pomp and magnificent attractions, the essence of the festival, represented by community and tradition, remains undisputed. Visitors can enjoy the atmosphere and look forward to music, culinary delights and numerous attractions.
