Drunk driving in Esslingen: 38-year-old flees after accident!

A 38-year-old was arrested in Esslingen on Tuesday evening after causing an accident while under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. on the Otto Hirsch Bridges in Stuttgart-Hedelfingen. The man hit the Renault of a 51-year-old while changing lanes and then fled the scene of the accident. He turned left onto Am Mittelkai Street. The material damage caused is estimated at several thousand euros. The police were able to locate the man's whereabouts on Klosterallee in Esslingen and arrested him there. During the arrest it was discovered that the man was under the influence of alcohol, whereupon his driver's license was temporarily confiscated and a blood test was ordered. In addition, fresh damage was discovered on the arrested man's vehicle that did not come from the accident in Hedelfingen. The police are asking witnesses and victims to report information by calling 07 11 / 89 90 35 00.

Such alcohol-related traffic accidents do not appear to be an isolated case in the region. It was only on the night from Saturday to Sunday that a 41-year-old driver in Esslingen caused a stir when she caused an accident while pulling into a parking space. Her alcohol test showed a level of over 1.5 per mille, which led to a blood test and the confiscation of her driver's license. The resulting material damage amounted to around 2000 euros. In this case, too, the perpetrator was drunk. These incidents highlight a growing problem in road traffic.

Driving under the influence of alcohol

According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, the number of alcohol-related traffic accidents in Germany remains worrying. In recent years the numbers have fluctuated, with data extending to 2024. Constant monitoring and public awareness are necessary to reduce the number of accidents. The statistics are available on the Statista platform and show how important preventive measures are to prevent alcohol-related driving. The publication of this data on July 9, 2025 and its last access on September 11, 2025 makes it clear that these problems remain current.

The combination of alcohol and driving remains a leading cause of traffic accidents. The recent incidents in Esslingen illustrate the dangers that can arise from driving under the influence of alcohol. Both the arrest of the 38-year-old and the incident with the 41-year-old are clear examples of the need for stricter controls and educational work in order to avoid serious accidents in the future.
