Gerlingen: Track and field athletes in training camp – title fights are getting closer!

A group of eight talented track and field athletes from Gerlingen are currently in training camp in picturesque Monte Gordo, Portugal. This training camp took place over the Pentecost weekend and aims to optimally prepare the athletes for upcoming championships. The conditions in the region are almost ideal. Surrounded by pine forests, athletes can train in a well-equipped athletics stadium that has modern outdoor running facilities, high-quality strength training areas and IAAF-certified facilities. According to Stuttgarter Nachrichten, the training options in the Complexo Desportivo Vila Real de Santo Antonio are particularly impressive, as there are, among other things, 80m sprint tracks as well Long jump, high jump and pole vault facilities.

The athletes are preparing intensively for the upcoming competitions. A special focus is on Julius Feuerfeil, who is considered the favorite for the Baden-Württemberg U18 3,000m title fights. On June 5th he broke the 9-minute mark in Ulm with a time of 8:58 minutes. He also qualified for the German Youth Championships in Wattenscheid in the 1,500m, 2,000m obstacle and 3,000m. Jakob Feuerfeil, who will be competing in the 3,000m race in Kandel on Sunday, also has promising prospects for a podium finish in the M14 class at the South German U16 Championships.

Varied training units

The training content in the training camp is tailored to the specific needs of the athletes. The Hotel Dunamar, where the group is staying, also offers the athletes excellent food and accommodation. As athletics training camp notes, trainees not only have access to modern sports facilities, but also a large amount of training materials for all disciplines.

Another focus is on Kim Weber, who is preparing her debut in the 400m hurdles at the U18 state championships. The athletes' competitive spirit and discipline are evident in their commitment during training and their anticipation of the upcoming competitions.

With a new surface in the stadium, which was used for the 2023 season, the conditions for the athletes are also optimal. To find out more about the training options and current offers, those interested can visit the website, which provides regularly updated information and images.
