Construction work in S-Bahn traffic: S1 only in two sections until July!

In Stuttgart and the surrounding region, passengers will face significant restrictions on local public transport in the coming weeks. The reason is extensive construction work affecting the S-Bahn lines and light rail systems. These measures are necessary to bring the infrastructure up to date and increase security.

The S-Bahn line S1 will be divided into two sections until July 10, 2025. The S1 runs between Herrenberg and Vaihingen and between Vaihingen and Kirchheim/Teck. This means that there are no continuous connections between Herrenberg and Stuttgart main station. Passengers have to change in Vaihingen to reach their destination. The departure times in Herrenberg no longer follow the regular basic frequency, but follow an intermediate frequency, with departures taking place at minutes 01 and 31. The arrival times in Herrenberg are scheduled for minutes 29 and 59. There is a further restriction, especially for travelers who want to use Stuttgart-Rohr: the S1 does not stop here and passengers have to use replacement buses (S2E). The S-Bahn lines S2 and S3 are also canceled between Vaihingen and the Filderstadt, airport and trade fair stations. These lines will also run every 30 minutes, as Gäu Bote reports.

Light rail traffic also affected

In addition to the restrictions on S-Bahn traffic, light rail traffic will also be significantly affected. Construction work will take place between Feuerbach Bahnhof and Feuerbach Pfostenwäldle from June 16th to June 22nd, 2025. During this time, the Wilhelm-Geiger-Platz, Föhrich and Sportpark Feuerbach stops cannot be reached. A replacement service with buses on the U6E line will be set up between Feuerbach train station and Feuerbach Pfostenwäldle. The U6 line will only run to Feuerbach Bahnhof, while the section between Feuerbach Bahnhof and Feuerbach Pfostenwäldle will be omitted. The U13 will be redirected from the Pragsattel stop towards Zuffenhausen Kelterplatz, and the U16 line will be completely canceled during this period, as described in detail on the website VVS.

The operational situation will be as follows: The U6 North runs between Gerlingen and Feuerbach Pfostenwäldle, while the U6 South runs between the airport/trade fair and Feuerbach train station. The U13 will run from Hedelfingen via Pragsattel to Zuffenhausen Kelterplatz. There are changed entry and exit conditions for passengers on the U6: At stops such as Feuerbach Pfostenwäldle, access to the platform is only possible on the platform facing out of town.

Important information for passengers

Passengers also have to prepare for extended travel times due to the use of alternative transport. It is not possible to take bicycles on the replacement buses. In addition, tickets must be purchased from a machine or via appropriate smartphone apps before starting the journey.

Overall, the extensive construction work shows the ongoing need for investment in the region's transport infrastructure. Passengers are requested to find out about the current timetables and measures in good time to avoid inconveniences.
