Foreign trainees: Winterbach's secret weapon against the nursing crisis!

In the picturesque Winterbach, where social integration and nursing professionalism come together, the Awo nursing home is a shining example of contemporary geriatric care. 115 employees work here, including around 25 trainees, most of whom come from abroad. This initiative is part of Awo's strategy to recruit qualified nursing trainees in various countries, with a particular focus on India. The popularity of nursing education has increased significantly in the Indian state of Kerala and is attracting more and more interested people.

In order to overcome the challenges in the care sector, homes like the one in Winterbach rely on international specialists. Foreign trainees not only bring fresh perspectives, but also actively contribute to relieving the burden on the often overworked nursing staff. Some of these trainees were interviewed in an interview and gave exciting insights into their everyday lives and integration. Their experiences show how complex and enriching intercultural collaboration in nursing can be.

The path to nursing training in Germany

The requirements for nursing training in Germany are clearly defined. Interested parties from abroad must meet special requirements, which include information on visas, school qualifications and language skills. This information is easily accessible on the federal government's portal for foreign skilled workers. A useful information flyer entitled “Current Nursing Education” is available in several languages including English, French and Polish.

In addition, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) offers comprehensive information about living and working in Germany. For questions that may arise, BAMF operates a hotline through which information is provided in German and English. The nursing training advisory team is also a valuable resource that specifically helps with questions about nursing training and supports prospective nurses.

Efforts to internationalize nursing education are making a significant contribution to counteracting the growing shortage of skilled workers. The diverse backgrounds of the trainees are not only an enrichment for the care facilities, but also for society as a whole. The Awo nursing home in Winterbach is an example of this positive trend in geriatric care.
