Police officers have an accident: aquaplaning causes chaos on the B29!

Today, June 2, 2025, several accidents occurred in Germany that were caused by dangerous weather conditions. Aquaplaning in particular caused dramatic incidents on the roads, affecting both civilians and police officers.

While traveling to an operation, two police officers had an accident in their patrol car in Iggingen in the Ostalb district. The cause of the accident was aquaplaning on a rain-soaked road. Her vehicle left the road and overturned several times. Both police officers were taken to hospital by ambulance, but luckily they only suffered minor injuries. However, the patrol car was totaled, meaning the car is no longer drivable. Due to the accident, the B29 had to be completely closed for a short time in the afternoon, but was later able to be driven past the accident site in a single lane. In another incident near Hermannsfeld, a 20-year-old driver also skidded and overturned her car, which ended up on its roof. She was slightly injured and was also taken to the hospital, as [ZVW reports](https://www.zvw.de/baden-w%C3%BCrttemberg/polizisten- Werden-bei-fahrt-zu-unfall-selbst-verletzt_arid-962038).

Weather conditions and other incidents

The incident in Iggingen is not alone. On May 26, 2025, a similar accident occurred on the A19 between Kavelstorf and Laage near Rostock. Here too, aquaplaning was the suspected cause of the accident. A 26-year-old driver overturned his car, which left the road due to heavy rain conditions. He also escaped with minor injuries and his vehicle came to a stop on a grass verge next to the road. The A19 had to be completely closed for around 30 minutes in the direction of Berlin, which led to significant traffic delays. The material damage was estimated at around 15,000 euros. The police renewed their appeal to all drivers to drive more slowly in such heavy rain to avoid similar incidents, as Tagesschau reports.

These accidents highlight the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions, particularly during heavy rain. Both the police and the responsible institutions advise caution and slowing down when driving under such conditions. Road users should remain vigilant and monitor road conditions at all times.
