SCANDAL in the Rems-Murr district: emergency practices close, patients in danger!

SHOCKING developments in the Rems-Murr district show that the closure of emergency practices is now having serious consequences for emergency medical care! Amid a wave of protest, the district quickly decided to join a CLASS ACTION lawsuit against the devastating closures decided by the Baden-Württemberg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVBW). The battle for medical care for the population has just begun, but the clock is ticking!

Already in the Annus Horribilis 2023, the KVBW announced the SHOCKING closure of a whopping 18 emergency practices! And it gets even worse: The emergency practice in Backnang closed its doors forever on June 30, 2025, leading to overloaded emergency rooms in Winnenden and Schorndorf. Stuttgart News report that many patients who could have received outpatient treatment are now ending up in overcrowded emergency rooms!

The desperate resistance

The political landscape is alarmed! However, protests and signature collections have not changed those responsible in the KVBW. Legal reports are skeptical about the plan, predicting that the lawsuit's chances of success are slim. Nevertheless, the district council decided to allocate a modest budget of 5,000 euros for the class action lawsuit in order to send a symbolic signal!

District Administrator Richard Sigel fearfully warns of the nefarious consequences for health care in the region. Mayor Maximilian Friedrich from Backnang is also not willing to tacitly accept the KVBW's behavior and is harshly critical.

A bleak outlook

The KVBW has announced that it will gradually complete the closures by the end of November 2025. The first practices will close in March 2024, but that's just the beginning! Government Gazette shows that regular closures are expected in the coming months - all while emergency supplies hang in the balance!

In addition, the KVBW is planning to set up alternative “reception practices”, which, however, with longer opening hours and additional doctors, only represent an inadequate solution. These changes should not obscure the fact that the 95% rule for patients to reach an emergency practice within 30 minutes remains a far-fetched promise!

The urgency of the situation

The discussion underlines the need for reforms in patient management. The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians speaks of a system that inadequately meets the challenges of acute and emergency care and is on alert in the face of impending crises!

What happens to those who do not receive timely care? The pressure on the already overloaded emergency rooms is increasing relentlessly, while the KVBW continues apparently without regard to losses!

Now is the moment to CONTINUE PROTESTING and demand REAL CHANGE in the system. Citizens have not accepted that important medical services are at stake for political reasons!
