Police warn: Shock calls are increasing in Remshalden and Schorndorf!

On May 27, 2025, several crimes were reported in the Remstal, putting the police on alert. In Remshalden-Geradstetten, a BMW was intentionally scratched on Weinbergweg between Monday, 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, 6:35 a.m. The material damage amounts to around 5,000 euros. Information about this incident is requested to the Weinstadt police station on 07151 65061. An attempted break-in was also registered in Schorndorf: a window at the Christian-Morgenstern-Kindergarten on Rainbrunnenstrasse was smashed between Monday, 8:20 p.m. and Tuesday, 7:05 a.m., but no break-in was discovered. The property damage amounts to approximately 1,000 euros, and witnesses are invited to contact the Schorndorf police station on 07181 2040.

Warning about scam shock calls

The increased number of shock calls reported in the Backnang and Murrhardt area, especially to older people, is particularly alarming. This scam, known as the “grandchild trick,” is currently being increasingly monitored by the police. The perpetrators often pose as close relatives or representatives of state institutions. This creates the impression that a relative is in an emergency situation that requires immediate financial help. Victims report false calls demanding amounts of up to 100,000 euros. The callers try to put their victims under pressure to provoke quick and rash actions.

The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) warns urgently against this aggressive tactic and gives the following tips: Do not allow yourself to be put under pressure, check the caller's details and never hand over money or valuables to strangers. It is advisable to always contact the police on 110 in the event of similar incidents and to contact trusted family members or friends in such cases. If you or someone you know has become the victim of a shock call, it is advisable to contact a victim advice center such as the “WEISSER RING” (nationwide number 116 006).
