Fuchshofschule in Schorndorf: Innovation Prize for Sustainable Renovation!

The Fuchshofschule in Schorndorf was awarded the “Monument – Energy – Future” innovation prize from the state of Baden-Württemberg. This honor is a significant step in the energy-efficient renovation of historic buildings that combine both monument protection and modern energy concepts. This recognizes the school's commitment to comprehensively renovating the five pavilions, which have been in operation since 1963 and have been listed since 2018. With the award, the school hopes to further raise awareness of sustainable solutions in education and architecture. As Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports, the first pavilion - known as the white pavilion - has already been successfully renovated and has been since September Used as a classroom in 2024. The energy requirement of this pavilion was reduced by 50 percent.

The award ceremony will take place on July 7, 2025 in the Phönix Hall in Stuttgart. Minister Nicole Razavi announced the winners and underlined the importance of innovative energy solutions for cultural monuments. A total of 28 projects were submitted, with ten projects, including the Fuchshofschule, receiving awards. The prize for the main prize winners is 12,500 euros each, while the other prize winners receive 8,000 euros. This means that a total prize money of 100,000 euros will be made available to actively promote the energetic improvement of cultural monuments, as can be read on baden-wuerttemberg.de.

Overview of the award winners

The innovation prizes were not only awarded to the Fuchshofschule. Other major prize winners include:

  • Freiburg im Breisgau: Stubenareal mit umfassender Sanierung und Nutzung erneuerbarer Energien.
  • Karlsdorf-Neuthard: Zehntscheuer mit Integration von Geothermie.
  • Tübingen-Bebenhausen: Klosterscheune, die als Wohnhaus mit einem hohen Energiestandard umgebaut wird.

Six other projects also received awards, including those in Altlußheim, Deggenhausertal-Urnau, Konstanz, Tettnang and Waldorfhäslach-Waldorf. Each of these projects shows how historical buildings can be revitalized using modern technologies and concepts in order to meet future demands and at the same time maintain monument protection, according to mlw.baden-wuerttemberg.de.

The Fuchshofschule plans to renovate the remaining pavilions individually every two years until 2032. These ongoing measures underscore the school's commitment not only to improving energy efficiency, but also to treating the historic building fabric responsibly.
