Explosion in Schorndorf: Flower dealer in court for attempted murder!

In January 2025, a devastating explosion occurred in Schorndorf, more precisely on Gmünder Straße, which completely destroyed the Turkish Café Melodi. The owner of the café was woken from his sleep by the force of the explosion. Since September 29, 2025, a 58-year-old florist has been standing before the Stuttgart regional court, accused of being responsible for this catastrophic situation. He admitted the crimes “in full,” as described in the indictment. This is reported by zvw.de.

The charges against the florist are serious and include attempted murder, aggravated arson, causing an explosive explosion and grievous bodily harm. The incident, in which several people were injured, not only took place in a residential and commercial building, but also affected other residents who were nearby. A total of seven people were injured, including a tenant who was seriously injured by jumping out of the building and two men who had to escape over a balcony and inhaled smoke gases. A mother and her two children were also rescued from the danger zone.

Details of the incident

According to the indictment, the defendant spilled gasoline, leaked gas, and ignited the entire mixture, resulting in an explosion that blew off an exterior wall of the building. The damage is estimated at several million euros. The defendant, who ran a business and lived on the ground floor of the building, left the building during the fire and observed the scene before he was taken to a clinic by rescue workers. He stated that he spent around six months in custody and is currently in the Stuttgart-Stammheim prison, as the Tagesschau reports.

A psychiatric expert will now clarify whether the defendant may have been in a state of reduced criminal responsibility on the day of the crime. Defense attorney Jens Rabe also requested that the next day of the trial be held privately. The public will be eagerly awaiting how the trial will develop and when a verdict can be expected. A decision could not be expected until November 2025 at the earliest.
