Unknown people are cutting down trees in Fellbach again – witnesses wanted!

In Fellbach, two trees were sawn down again on the night of Saturday, May 31st, to Sunday, June 1st. The crime took place on Thomas-Mann-Strasse, near the Zeppelin School. A few days earlier, a week before, a tree was illegally felled on the adjacent Bühlstrasse. Both incidents took place within a few hundred meters of each other. The police have now started an investigation and are looking for witnesses who can provide information about the perpetrators. It is suspected that similar incidents, such as one in Remshalden in May 2025, in which trees were felled at the skate park, could possibly be repeated in Fellbach in the future. ZVW reports that ...

These incidents shed a worrying light on the situation of trees in the city. Meanwhile, there are also other developments in Fellbach that affect the tree landscape. A recently presented tree slice serves as evidence of the felling of six imperial linden trees, which were chopped off due to tree rot. Head of the building department Beatrice Soltys explained that these measures were not arbitrary but were planned in 2018. Tree rot is a serious threat because it can severely affect the stability of trees, especially when storms approach. It was also pointed out that trees on the church square do not have enough space for their roots, which also endangers their health. Stuttgarter Nachrichten reported that ...

Regular reviews and challenges

Regular examinations of the tree population in Fellbach are necessary in order to identify sources of danger at an early stage. In the longer term, rot and other problems can cause branches or entire trunks to break off, endangering people. CDU city councilor Jörg Schiller also spoke up and cited climate change as an influencing factor on tree health. Nevertheless, Andreas Möhlmann from the SPD expressed concerns because no replacements have yet been planted for the recently felled trees near the youth center and the combined pool.

The plan for the future is to present detailed information about the current tree situation in Fellbach next March. The discussion about the responsible use of trees in the city is more relevant than ever, especially in light of recent incidents and the ongoing challenges regarding tree health.
