Senior mobile homes in Remshalden are booming – volunteers urgently needed!

The senior mobile home in Remshalden is very popular and runs successfully. This initiative offers a free transport service that was specifically set up for seniors and people with limited mobility. As part of the project, the trips are carried out by committed volunteers who take the seniors to important appointments such as doctor's visits, shopping or visits to the authorities. The idea for the senior mobile came about during the citizen participation process “Shaping Remshalden” and was brought to life by Hans-Jürgen Thiel and Reiner Mars, who actively distributed flyers and set up a contact telephone number. However, according to ZVW we are looking for more volunteers, especially female helpers.

The senior mobility vehicle fills an important gap in mobility provision in the Remstal. The offer is aimed at seniors who often have difficulty running their everyday errands or getting to social events due to a lack of public transport connections. Particular reliability is ensured as trips usually have to be registered at least one day in advance to make planning easier for the volunteer drivers. When using the transport service, seniors should note that a minimum distance of one hour must be maintained from the regular bus routes.

Driving service details

The volunteers of the senior mobile service not only transport individuals, but also people with foldable walkers. However, there are restrictions for wheelchair users who cannot currently be transported. The driving area covers the entire municipality of Remshalden, including the districts of Buoch, Grunbach, Geradstetten, Hebsack and Rohrbronn, and extends to neighboring communities such as Großheppach and Winterbach as well as to clinics in Winnenden and Schorndorf. The travel times are from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The transport service can be booked by telephone on 0173 6234997, which can be reached from Monday to Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Those interested should register their trip at least two days in advance. It is also possible to contact Reiner Mars, who acts as spokesman for the Seniors' Council, for voluntary support (Tel. 07151 72175, Email: reiner.mars@gmx.de).

Social responsibility and volunteering

The voluntary driving service, as it is also offered in other rural regions, is of great importance for the quality of life of seniors. Various studies show that such offers can promote social interaction and independence among older people. Initiatives like this show how important it is for the community to advocate for its members. The drivers' private vehicles or vehicles from municipalities and clubs are used for transport. In some regions, an expense allowance of up to 25 cents per kilometer is even paid to recognize voluntary work, as explained by Mobilikon.

In summary, it can be said that the senior mobile in Remshalden is a valuable service that can be further strengthened in the future through the use of additional volunteers. The commitment of volunteers is crucial to maintaining and improving the social contacts and mobility of the older generation in the community.
