Charity run in Plüderhausen: 150 runners on the road for Ethiopia!

The traditional “People for People” charity run took place in Plüderhausen last weekend. Around 150 runners took part in the event, who ran on the route around the Ski Club Plüderhausen ski hut in optimal running conditions. The aim of the run is to support people in Ethiopia, a cause that has been pursued for 30 years now. Participants had the opportunity to convert the kilometers they ran into euros, with each kilometer being valued at 2.50 euros. The donation amount is confirmed in advance of the run, which makes planning and motivating donors easier.

The event not only promotes participants' sporting involvement, but also social interaction in the community. Sponsors come from the corporate sector and from private individuals who help to achieve a high overall mileage. So far, donations from the charity runs have totaled over 100,000 euros. There is no timekeeping and therefore no winners; The focus is on having fun running and being together. After the race, a refreshment area will be available to pamper participants and supporters.

A common goal

The commitment to people in Ethiopia illustrates the important role of development cooperation. Since the 1960s, Germany has been reporting public and private development cooperation benefits, which are internationally subject to the requirements of the OECD Development Committee (DAC). These efforts show that the reality of development financing has changed over the years, impacting events like the charity walk as more people are mobilized to raise funds and highlight the issues that need support. Since 2012, the DAC has been working on a fundamental modernization of development cooperation statistics in order to increase the effectiveness of these funds and promote transparency.

The next events are already in the starting blocks. The charity run “People run for people” will take place in 2024 on Saturday, April 20th, at 3:00 p.m. in the Boppenrain in Plüderhausen. Groups are welcome to take part and there will be a trophy for the group with the most kilometers walked. What is particularly noteworthy is that there is no entry fee, but donations are welcome. This underlines the charitable nature of the run.

The charity run in Plüderhausen is not only a sporting event, but also a strong symbol of solidarity and community. The organizers and everyone involved make a valuable contribution to supporting people in developing regions and show how important social commitment is.
