On June 6, 2025, numerous demonstrations against right-wing extremism and the AfD will take place in Germany. These protests are part of a growing movement that has already mobilized millions of people since the beginning of 2023. The aim of the current actions is not only the AfD, which the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified as definitely right-wing extremist, but also possible cooperation between established parties and right-wing forces. As news.de reports, 67% of Germans think that the AfD poses a threat to democracy.
The past few years have brought about a critical wave of protests against right-wing ideologies. Since the major protest against the AfD party conference in Riesa in January 2025 alone, more than 1.7 million people have taken part in various protests. On February 8, 2025, the largest demonstration against the right took place in Munich, in which, according to the police, at least 250,000 people took part.
Planned events in Germany
Numerous events are scheduled for June 2025 in various federal states. This includes not only street protests, but also workshops, readings, discussions and lectures. The protests are not only a response to the activities of the AfD, but also to its influence within the political landscape in Germany. In 2024, issues such as a secret meeting of right-wing extremist patrons in Potsdam, which was also attended by politicians from the CDU, gave rise to nationwide strikes and demonstrations. The CDU/CSU is also facing criticism as a request for state funding for organizations such as “Grandmas Against the Right” and “Correctiv” raises isolated concerns about political neutrality.
