In the Rosenheim district, police have caught a suspected sex offender who has been wanted by law enforcement for almost eight years. The 43-year-old Romanian citizen is accused of raping a 21-year-old woman in a forest on Kunstmühlstraße on July 23, 2017. The incident occurred early in the morning between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. when the young woman was on her way home from the city center. Initially, the identity of the perpetrator was unknown and the investigations by the criminal police and the Traunstein public prosecutor's office made no significant progress.

Over the years, extensive investigations by the special “Mangfalldamm” investigative group, which consisted of more than ten members, led to numerous measures. The crime scene was searched by the police, witnesses were questioned and a DNA test was carried out in Upper Bavaria South. However, this was initially unsuccessful. The cooperation between the Upper Bavaria South police headquarters, the Traunstein public prosecutor's office, the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and the Federal Criminal Police Office as well as Italian authorities ensured that the investigations continued to be pursued intensively.

Apprehending the suspect

The alleged perpetrator was finally arrested on June 10, 2025. The arrest warrant was issued by a judge at the Rosenheim District Court at the request of the public prosecutor after a successful lead led to the identification of the suspect. After his arrest, the man was brought before the judge in charge to clarify the question of his arrest. The arrest warrant was executed and the accused was taken to a correctional facility, where he will remain until further clarification.
