A WORLD FIRST in German handball! Michael Schweikardt, the rising coaching star, will take the reins as the new head national coach for male youth at the German Handball Federation (DHB) from September 1, 2023! ZVW reports that Schweikardt and his new boss, who is also the coach of the female offspring, Heike Ahlgrimm, could revolutionize the game of handball!
At a whopping 42 years old, the experienced coach has already had an illustrious career in German handball. After 16 exciting years as a Bundesliga professional, in which he played for teams like Frisch Auf Göppingen, MT Melsungen and TVB Stuttgart, he has now dedicated himself to the young talent. SHOCKING, but also inspiring, he knows the challenge of shaping young talent and bringing it to the big stage!

In a bold decision, the DHB has decided to look after male and female offspring separately in the future. A step that makes the handball world tremble! DHB highlights that Ingo Meckes, DHB Sports Director, is thrilled about Schweikardt's appointment and positions his instinct for talent at the top with unparalleled success.
Schweikardt also brings with him a high-performance A coaching license, which he acquired in 2019, as well as a certificate for training young talent in the competitive sport of handball, which he completed in 2021. With these impressive qualifications and an eye for scouting talent, both nationally and internationally, he is more than ready to take on the challenge!

Did you know that handball is the second most popular sport in Germany? More than 800,000 members are organized in the German Handball Association, which is the largest handball association in the WORLD with around 4,500 clubs and around 24,000 teams! DHB youth reports that the promotion of young talent in German handball is internationally regarded as exemplary - and with Schweikardt at the helm, this course could be even more magnificent!
The successes of the German youth teams speak volumes: After the first Olympic victory in 2007 and the title wins in 2009 and 2011, the expectations of the new head national coach are more than high.
